I know of the Smith & Wesson Handbook but could never justify the $35.00 for my single question. I have a S&W.357 65-I that my father gave to me. The serial number is 1D15xxx. I am only really interested in knowing roughly when it was made. I grew up shooting with it and am simply curious about it's age. Six-round target revolver with a 6' barrel. This model was also known as the 22/32 Bekeart after Phil Bekeart, who was the California arms dealer who convinced Smith & Wesson to manufacture the 22/32 H.E. The revolver has very fine target sights. The revolver has approximately 95% of its original blue and 100% of its hammer case.
I acquired an old S&W revolver to build a bullseye pistol. But it appears that it is older than I first thought. It is a 4' barrel, round butt, four screw sideplate. It has the 'old style' hammer and trigger. It has no markings except the S&W logo on the sideplate, and the serial number 16500 stamped on the butt. I think is is a 'Victory' model, but I am not sure. Does anyone know how I could go about dating it by the serial number? I would really like to find out if parts are still available before I start working on it.
